A company that just closed a round is about to spend it. Every private company raising money in the US files a Form D with the SEC, and in that filing it states its own street address, its own phone number and the names of its executive officers and directors. This Actor reads those filings the day they appear, drops the investment funds, and returns what is left as a lead list.

What you get per company

  • The amount actually sold and the amount still being offered, parsed from the filing XML.
  • Street address, city, state and ZIP, exactly as filed.
  • The phone number the company itself gave the SEC.
  • Executive officers and directors, split apart, because the executive is the one worth a call.
  • Industry, entity type, state of incorporation and year founded.
  • A 0-100 score on size, freshness and security type, so a week of leads sorts itself.
  • A direct SEC.gov link to the filing every row came from.

Who uses it

  • Sales teams selling to companies with fresh budget: software, recruiting, legal, insurance, office space, banking.
  • Recruiters, because a company that raised is a company that hires.
  • VC and PE associates checking who else joined a round.
  • Anyone who needs a reason to call, not just a name on a list.

What it is not

This is not an email list. Form D carries a phone number and a postal address, and no email. Anyone selling you SEC-sourced email addresses is guessing them.

It is also not a company tracker. The scan looks at most five trading days back, so a specific company you name is almost never in it. For that, use the Startup Funding Tracker, which watches the filings themselves.

Where the data comes from

SEC EDGAR, Form D, read from the daily index on the day it publishes. Address, phone, executives and directors come out of the filing itself, filed by the company with a federal regulator. That is company information published by a regulator, not data collected from private profiles.

Pooled investment funds file the most Form Ds and buy nothing, so they are filtered out by default.

Volume

Around 700 filings a month come from operating companies rather than funds. A single trading day above one million dollars is usually 5 to 25 companies, and nearly all of them carry a phone number.
